Mayur Lakhani

Mayur Lakhani is a practising GP in Leicestershire, and Chair of The Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management. He is one of only ten GPs to have become President (2017-2019) and Chairman (2004-2007) of Britain’s largest medical royal college, the RCGP. He was the youngest ever chair of the RCGP where he spearheaded the flagship policy of GP federations, the forerunner of PCNs. During his tenure, the MRCGP became the mandatory entry standard for general practice. As President, he championed Members’ interests and led a signature initiative, The Presidents Listening Initiative  which included celebrating the work of Black GPs. During the pandemic he is a senior clinician on the national covid-19 clinical assessment service. His co-authored latest article Optimistic Medicine  was published in JRSM and describes a positive and vibrant vision of medicine led by doctors.
