First conference speakers announced

Frank Atherton, Chief Medical Officer Wales speaks from behind a lectern

FMLM proudly announce the four UK Chief Medical Officers as featured speakers at our International Healthcare Leadership Conference.

Frank Atherton - Chief Medical Officer, Wales
Sir Francis Atherton was formerly deputy chief medical officer in the Department of Health and Wellness in Nova Scotia, Canada, director of public health in north Lancashire, and president of the UK Association of Directors of Public Health. He was appointed as Chief Medical Officer for Wales in April 2016.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in Wales, Atherton said that he was attempting to reduce the risk of transmission by taking "all appropriate measures".
He was knighted in the 2022 New Year Honours list for services to public health.

Chris Whitty - Chief Medical Officer, England
A British epidemiologist serving as Chief Medical Officer for England and Chief Medical Adviser to the UK Government since 2019.
Since March 2020, Whitty has played a key role in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom. Whitty was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in the 2022 New Year Honours for services to public health.

Gregor Smith - Chief Medical Officer, Scotland
Sir Gregor Ian Smith is a Scottish general practitioner who has served as the Chief Medical Officer for Scotland since December 2020. A medicine graduate of the University of Glasgow Medical School, Smith served as a general practitioner doctor in Larkhall. He served as the Director for Primary Care at NHS Lanarkshire before being appointed Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Scotland in 2015.

Michael McBride - Chief Medical Officer, Northern Ireland.
In November 2014 he was appointed as Chief Executive of Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, serving until February 2017 while continuing in his role of Chief Medical Officer. McBride was knighted in the 2021 Birthday Honours for services to public health in Northern Ireland. He was awarded an honorary Professorship in Public Health Practice from Queen's University Belfast in 2021 for services to Public Health.
