Nigel Acheson

Nigel Acheson is the Chief Medical Officer for NHS Devon - the integrated care system in Devon - where he provides strategic and clinical leadership.

Nigel has held a number of high profile roles over the last decade. He was a Regional Medical Director in NHS England, and Deputy Chief Inspector of Hospitals at the Care Quality Commission before taking up his current role.
Having originally trained in Birmingham, Nigel was appointed as Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Birmingham Women's Hospital before moving to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in 2004.

Nigel has been a champion for involving patients as partners in their care and has a focus on improving the safety and quality of health services. He has qualifications in patient safety and clinical risk management and health service governance. He is Patron of the FORCE cancer charity in Exeter and a Board member of the South West Academic Health Science Network.
